Prison Break

Prison Break is an American television drama series about a group of prisoners who, during the process of being executed, use a high-tech device to free themselves and thus begin an elaborate plan for escape. The series was aired on Fox from 2001 to 2005.

Cast

The series stars Dominic Purcell as Tom Paxton, a Special Agents who aspires to leave Special Crimes Unit to join the Fox River Penitentiary's escape squad. Among the other major roles are Wentworth Miller as Lincoln Burrows, an American Mafia enforcer who is hired by the Fox River Scrapyard to find the unit's mastermind and the only member of the unit to survive his execution, and Robert Knepper as Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell, a crime lord who is the leader of a gang called "The Company".

The role of Michael Scofield, who suffers from a morphine addiction and from a personality disorder, was played by Dominic Purcell's real-life brother, actor Wentworth Miller. However, the circumstances surrounding the execution of Michael Scofield, and the plot to stage his escape, were completely fictional and unrelated to the true story of the inspiration for the series, Charles Graner, a guard at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq who killed a prisoner who tried to escape. Graner's actions were not a model of employee behavior, and his treatment of prisoners was far worse than the actions of any FOX penitentiary inmate ever had been.

The prisoners are prevented from seeing each other or communicating before they are executed, which they consider a form of torture. Following the escape of the group, a highly fictionalized fictional network television version of the series, Prison Break, was created. A film adaptation, Prison Break: Contagion, was released in 2010.

While in prison, the inmates begin to construct an electronic device which they call the Freedom Machine and use it to free themselves and the other prisoners. The Company, the group of inmates which operates in the prison, is led by Bagwell, who is funded by the Mafia for this purpose. These other inmates are called "brethren", as they are regarded to have the same racial background.

The main work of the series is to explain the main storyline that creates the reason for the inmates' escape.
